Welcome to our Team Summit page! Our team name is "Summit", which means the highest point of a mountain, road or hill.
There are many summits in the world. Mount Everest, the highest peak in the world, was conquered on May 29th 1953 by Sir Edmund Hillary. He said, when asked about why he decided to climb the peak, "I think it's much better to start out on something that you're not at all sure that you can do. If you overcome and you manage to defeat the obstacles, the satisfaction is so much greater."
Many other people have conquered other challenging summits around the world as well. In Vermont, for example, it is believed that Mount Mansfield, the highest peak in Vermont, was reached by Ira Allen and his men in 1772. Camel's Hump, the third highest summit in Vermont, was once referred to as the "resting place" or "sit-down place" by the Abenaki.
While the summits were different, they all required tenacity, risk-taking and courage to be conquered. Every day, students conquer their own summits and as their knowledge and understanding grows, these summits get bigger.
